Additional info:

Tuition $140 monthly, Duration of the lesson is 90 min.

Requirements for students:

This class is designed for middle school students. Each student will need to bring their own PC-compatible (not Mac) laptop and know the admin password, because we will install a simple HTML editor. Access to a digital camera or smartphone is helpful to add pictures to the site.

Class outline:

In this class students will learn how to create and share content on their own webpages. After deciding what content they want to share with the world, students will learn how to structure and style the pages using HTML and CSS. Interactivity will be added to the pages using javascript programming language. A typical lesson will consist of explanation of new material and practice time to add newly learned capability to the website. Questions will be answered and help provided during the practice. Homework will be given to complete the class practice assignment, if it was not finished in class. Students will be guided towards developing a simple personal website (no private information or links to such information, of course), but other themes for the site are also possible. Students will be encouraged to experiment with technology and increase the complexity of the site, and will be introduced to the documentation and help information available on the web. All work in progress will be periodically published to the Internet, so students can show their friends and family. By the end of the unit, each student will have a website that will stay published onĀ  the Internet.

Learning to write programs stretches your mind, and helps you think better, creates a way of thinking about things that I think is helpful in all domains.
